Getting Rid of Mold The Natural Way

moldThere are several issues that you are going to have to tackle in your home. One of the many options that you may have to face off against is that of mold. In most cases, you can get rid of this with relative ease, assuming that you act fast. If not, you’re going to have an uphill battle with this issue that could prove to be unhealthy. Before it turns into a serious issue, consider a few tips and tricks on how to remove mold naturally, so that it doesn’t return.

What Is Mold?

First and foremost, you need to understand that this is an issue that comes from organic means. It’s a fungus that breaks down inorganic materials by creating spores and pathogens that eat away at walls, furnishings and more. Over time, the spores can become airborne and end up in the lungs, causing severe allergies, and breathing issues. In the most severe of cases, they can lead to respiratory failure and death. The main cause of the growth can be water, even a small amount left alone such as moisture from a basement, or a shower. Long term moisture and condensation left alone will produce mold through water damage, and will take time to develop, which is why it’s important to clear things up fast.

Tackling The Problem

First and foremost, you are going to need to isolate any areas that are damp, and have signs of molding. Look at bathrooms, basements, kitchen cabinets, and other places that get a bit of moisture overall. Once you isolate these areas, you’ll want to look into making a mix that can clean up mold deposits fast.
You can work on this via adding the following elements to a spray bottle:

  •  1 teaspoon borax
  • 1 teaspoon tea tree oil
  •  Water

Use these elements in a spray bottle to spray surfaces and clean them off with care. This will help you get things cleaned up first. Then you can attack the area with a bit more force, as it were.
Mix baking soda and vinegar in a 2:1 ratio and use that as a paste across stubborn areas. Once you let this set in, scrub away and you’ll get things clean with ease. You’ll want to clean this up, then use the spray mentioned above to help with another topical cleaning round.
Lastly, you will want to clean up laundry areas, including your washing machine from time to time. To do this, make sure that you run an empty cycle with hydrogen peroxide instead of bleach. This will help disinfect and clear out mold that may be lurking. If you tackle your damp areas often, you will not have to worry about mold deposits coming through, that’s for sure.
